Theory X
Condition 1:- Employees are lazy and Manager
assumes that employees are lazy. In this condition Manager doesn’t motivate the employees and he doesnot try to find
ways to improve employees' productivity. This condition is degenerative for
Organization. We can see this scenario in lots of govt. organizations and this
has been a major reason for low productivity among them.
Condition
2:- Employees are
good but manager thinks
employees are lazy.This
condition is also not good. Employees are trying to do their best but they are getting
no incentive for that. Manager is not providing proper appreciation and
motivation to the employees. This results in deteriorating performance of employees,
inclining the organization to move towards Condition 1.
Theory Y
Condition 3:- The employees are lazy but
manager thinks they are good employees.
He provides proper motivation and feed back to employees, which results in
better performance by employee, inclining the organization to move towards goal.
Condition 4:- This is condition for very
effective and efficient organization. Employee is good and he is getting proper
motivation to strive for better.
These conditions show that the managers of theory X are having a
negative attitude towards the goal where as the managers of theory Y are
positive in their approach and tend to think positive and this motivates the
entire team and provides the positive energy.
I want to quote an example from my personal experience which is of Condition
2 where employees were good but manager thought that Employees were lazy.
I was working at a Project Site where all the employees were very hard
working and just needed some motivation, but my project manager believed that nobody
from the employees was interested in doing his work until and unless he forces
them. So he was used to consistently find faults in their work and even when
the employees have achieved something he never motivated them instead of that he
use to tell them that whatever they have achieved should have been done
earlier. This resulted in lack of motivation and lack of interest in the work among the employees and this resulted in delay
in the project.
So this is an example of Theory X manager due to which the project got
delayed.
your learning relates to whether you have seen the real life examples related to the above concepts.. You need to see them.. you need to practice them.. then you choose which style is good or bad.. Good examples.. but more examples explaining more concepts is needed .. dr mandi
